Mentoring at Zunft
Mentoring here means giving a junior team occasional, honest feedback from someone who has actually shipped things. You pick the format and the time you can give.
Why this needs mentors
The gap our participants have is not syntax. They can already write code. What they are missing is somebody senior reading their pull requests, sitting in on a decision, and telling them plainly what is wrong with it. That is the part self-study cannot give them, and it is the part a mentor gives in a few hours a month.
Ways to help
Open hours
A fixed slot each week. Teams come prepared with a specific question: screens, architecture, code. You look and give direct feedback.
Synchronous. A fixed weekly slot. No preparation needed from you.
Code review
You read pull requests and technical decisions asynchronously, in your own time. No calls required.
Asynchronous. Ongoing through the cohort. No fixed slot.
Leading a project
If you have a product idea and want to try being the person who runs a team. The product stays yours.
Mostly asynchronous, with some live check-ins. Runs the whole cohort. Needs upfront time to shape the project before it starts.
Guest session
One talk or workshop for the whole cohort.
Synchronous. One-off. Needs a short prep for the talk or workshop.
What we ask
Reliability over volume. A small contribution you actually keep is worth more to us than a large one you abandon halfway. If the honest answer is "I can only do one guest session," that is a welcome answer — say it upfront rather than overcommitting.
What we do not ask
- No money, in either direction.
- No exclusivity — mentor here and anywhere else you like.
- No fixed term beyond the cohort you sign up for.
- No obligation to hire anyone you meet through the program.
If you need to stop, tell us and stop. Nobody chases you.
How it works in practice
A mentor is matched to one team based on the format you picked. Everything happens online. The cohort runs in English. The first cohort starts mid-October.
Have some time to give?
One guest session is already real help. Tell us what you can do, and we will find the right format together.
